Brisbane blocks for one reason more than any other, and that reason is roots in old clay sewer.
The inner and southern suburbs are full of houses from the twenties through the fifties, and a lot of them are still running the earthenware line they were built with. Every joint in it is a seam, and eighty years of jacaranda, fig and poinciana roots have had plenty of time to find them.
The tell is not usually dramatic. Drains get a bit slower over a couple of years, the shower takes longer to empty, the toilet gurgles when the washing machine drains. By the time it backs up properly the root mass has been building for a long while.
Newer parts of Brisbane, out through Rochedale, Springwood and Underwood, block differently. Flatter ground and less fall in the line means anything solid stops where the water slows down.

Drains talk before they block. The noises and the order they appear in tell you roughly where the problem is and how much time you have.
Air being pulled back through the trap because the line cannot take the volume. The blockage is downstream of both fixtures, usually out in the yard line. This is an early warning, not an emergency.

The classic root intrusion pattern. Roots grow, the gap narrows, and it gets a little worse each month until one day it does not clear at all.

Brisbane sewer is generally older than the coast's. In the inner suburbs you are dealing with earthenware from the 1930s and 40s, and street trees that have had eighty years to work on it. Coorparoo, Camp Hill, Holland Park and Annerley are all the same story: big figs and poincianas over old clay.
The other thing is what has been built on top. A lot of these houses have been raised, extended or built in underneath, and the pipework rarely got the same attention as the kitchen did. So you have a renovated house sitting over a line nobody has looked at since the 1950s.
The shower is usually the lowest fixture in the house, so it is the first thing that stops draining properly. People put up with it for months because it still goes down eventually.
That slow shower is the warning. A drain that is 70% blocked works fine until the day it does not, and the day it does not is generally the day you have people over. Getting it looked at while it is still slow is a great deal cheaper than getting it looked at while it is on the floor.
On a house up on stumps, the sewer runs underneath in a crawl space. That is awkward to dig and expensive to replace, which is why we camera first and talk about relining second. A liner goes in through an existing access point and leaves the crawl space alone.

I called Blake to help locate a tricky water leak on our acreage property, he quickly identified multiple leaks on both the council and our side of the line and got them all fixed. Most of what we get called to is the $249 drain clean, which covers a normal blockage reached through an opening that already exists, and nothing is added for the visit itself. Harder jobs get their own price first. If the camera shows the pipe itself is at fault rather than what is sitting in it, you hear what the repair costs before committing to any of it.
