Mermaid Waters is one of the Gold Coast's original canal estates, and a lot of what got built along Lake Hugh Muntz and the surrounding waterways in the 1970s and 80s is now sitting on pipework that's had its fifty years. When that pipework fails under a paved courtyard or a pool deck, digging it up isn't really an option most owners want to consider. Relining usually is.

A lot of the housing stock along the canals here dates to the original 1970s-90s development of the estate, which puts the underground pipework at or past its expected working life in plenty of streets. Add to that the fact that most blocks back onto a canal or a lake frontage with a pontoon or jetty, an in-ground pool, and mature landscaping that's been growing in for decades - the paving, retaining and turf around these homes usually cost more to establish than the pipe running underneath them, and nobody wants to lose it to an excavation.
There's also the salt air. Being this close to the waterways, exposed metal fittings and older pipe joints corrode faster than they would a few kilometres inland, which shows up as pinhole leaks and joint failures earlier than you'd expect for the pipe's age.

We run a camera through the line before quoting anything. That tells us exactly where the damage is, how long the affected section runs, and whether it's actually a candidate for lining.
The line gets cleared of roots, scale and debris so the liner can bond properly.
The resin liner goes in through the existing access point, inflates against the pipe wall and cures in place. No trench, no torn-up paving.
We run the camera through again to confirm the liner has cured properly and the line is clear end to end.
Pipe relining is priced by the metre and by how difficult access is - how far the damaged section runs, how many bends are involved, and what's sitting above it. A straightforward run under a lawn costs differently to a longer run under a pool deck with limited access points. We don't quote off a guess: the camera inspection tells us what we're dealing with, and you get a firm price before any work starts - with no call-out fee for us to come and run the camera.
For most cracked or root-affected pipe under an established property, yes. It avoids ripping up paving, pool surrounds or canal-front landscaping that would cost far more to reinstate than the plumbing itself. The liner is rated for around fifty years, so it's not a patch - it's a genuine alternative to a dig-up.
There isn't a single rate we can quote without seeing the pipe. Cost depends on the length of the damaged section, how many joints or bends it has to navigate, and how accessible the pipe is. We give a firm, itemised price after the camera inspection - never before.

Had an issue with our 16 year old toilet leaking from underneath the pan somewhere. Called Blake & he sent Lachlan out the following morning to diagnose & quote. Lachlan gave us 3 options, which was great. We chose the middle one, which included replacing all the internals, so hopefully we should be OK for another 16 years! Absolutely amazing service from the moment I got in touch with them, and in particular Blake. I explained to him my issue and he took the time and effort (completely unprompted) in providing steps of how he would tackle the problem. When it came time to actually have the issue physically looked at, Lachie gave me a call and let me know how far away he was; he arrived promptly and on-time, and was able to very quickly diagnose and provide a solution. I was quoted on the spot and not pressured whatsoever to have more things looked at than I needed to, which I very much appreciated. While I've got my fingers crossed to not have any further short-term issues with my property's plumbing, I'd wholeheartedly recommend these guys and gals to anyone willing to listen. Very happy with the service from Genies Plumbing. We had a leaking kitchen tap and Blake was out in a couple of hours. He sourced a new one, came back later in the day and fitted it. I called Blake to help locate a tricky water leak on our acreage property, he quickly identified multiple leaks on both the council and our side of the line and got them all fixed. He kept us informed every step of the way, and was incredibly responsive and professional, and a genuinely nice person.
